THE RED RIVER REBELLION
The uprising in 1869–70 in the Red River Colony was started by the move of the of Rupert`s Land to Canada. The colony of farmers and hunters, most of them were Métis, took up a part of Rupert's Land and were scared for their culture and land rights under the control of Canada. The Métis started a rebellion and declared a government to talk about terms for entering confederation. The uprising led to the creation of Manitoba and the appearence of Métis leader Louis Riel. He was considered a hero to people and to some people in Quebec, but an outlaw to the Canadian government.
