THE NORTH-WEST TERRITORIES
The Northwest Territories are in the northwest of central Canada, with Nunavut to the east, Yukon to the west and to the south by the northeastern corner of British Columbia, also the entire northern borders of Alberta and Saskatchewan. The name was first given to the territory in 1870 from the Hudson Bay Company and Great Britain. They called it Rupert`s Land and the North-Western Territory. In 1880, Great Britain also transferred the Arctic Islands, north of the mainland, to Canada, which added them to the territories.
